WELCOME to 6th Grade Orchestra!!!

Deciding to play an instrument is a very exciting time in a child’s life! It will encourage independence, discipline, and cooperation while nurturing self-esteem. In 6th Grade Orchestra the following instruments are offered: VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO, and STRING BASS.

Here is some very important information to know:

• ORCHESTRA CLASS:  Orchestra meets every day for 35 minutes in the orchestra room. Instruments will be stored in this room throughout the day. All instruments will stay at Davis until the directors finally allow the students to begin taking them home to practice (in September). 
   

• INSTRUMENT RENTAL:  If you have not already done so, lease go by one of the music stores below to set up your child's instrument rental. If possible, have the rental company deliver their instrument to Davis. If the instrument is not being delivered to the school, all students will need to bring their instruments on Monday (8/11). If your child does not have an instrument yet, please try to secure one as soon as possible.
   

• PRACTICING:  Practicing is the students' homework for Orchestra class; outside work is essential to their success. The practice expectation is 15-20 minutes a day, 5 days a week.  Scheduling a practice time, just like they would for basketball, soccer, or volleyball practice is the key to being successful on an instrument and for them to steady improvement!
   

• CONCERTS:  There are 2-3 concerts every year. These performances are an important part of being in the class, and attendance is mandatory. Concert dates will be sent out in an email and hard copies will be distributed once all the dates are approved. If there are any conflicts with the concert dates, let us know as soon as you are aware of the conflict. We want your students to be able to participate in all the activities they are involved in, so we are determined to find a solution to any conflict if possible!
